The What & The Why

The What & The Why

Sleep is both a science and an art. To top that off, it is a lifeskill. And yet, it remains one of the most illusive parts of life, especially when it comes to babies. One of the primary reasons babies do not sleep well is that they typically develop a dependence on sleep props. Sleep props are anything that they simply cannot go to sleep on their own without—i.e.nursing, bottle feeding, rocking, singing, a car ride, negotiating with toddlers, you get the idea. While, trust me, I have been there done that and used many of these as a nanny of 13+ years. I have also learned that the way forward and the path to success involves taking steps to shift their dependence on sleep props to a newfound independence in putting themselves to sleep. The incredible gift of learning independent sleep is a lifelong gift you give your child and benefits their development as well as your quality of life.

Crying—the hardest part

Crying—the hardest part

Are you asking me to leave my child to cry it out? Absolutely not. I firmly believe that while not all tears are avoidable, they are worth taking seriously. We will be working together to ensure that your child is receiving the nurture and attentive care they need, while you encourage and empower them to learn a brave and vital new skill. As a toddler, your child has cognitively developed to a point that much of their sleep protesting related tears are not tears that are unsafe or harmful for them, they are simply in protest to not getting what they want and expect. Though, we will absolutely be attentive and nurturing in your sleep plan, your toddler will likely cry in protest of any change we make. While we absolutely will not leave them to just cry it out, we will help them learn that all is well and these protests are not going to change the plan or be the reason that they don’t get the quality sleep they need.

I’m trained in every sleep method—but sleep success isn’t about the “right” method. It’s about finding the right fit for your child and your family’s lifestyle. Together, we’ll create a step-by-step plan that feels manageable, supportive, and effective—so your whole household can thrive.
